This year (2023) marks 100 years of radio existence since the medium was introduced in South Africa.

This theme for this year's 12th World Radio Day edition was “Radio and Peace” as a signifier of Radio in conflict prevention and peace building

Since the huge breakthrough of its induction. Radio has perpetually flabbergasted the audience by delivering quality news and entertainment, as well as providing a platform for a democratic dialogue.

The digital space has made a vast improvement in terms of accessibility and communication.

But despite the vast improvement and rapid growth, South Africans do not benefit equally from the digital shift of accessing the medium.

Adding to that, traditional radio remains trusted with it zipping through the airways at the speed of light from old age to modern technology.

As the third year journalism students at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, we attended the World Radio seminar at the SABC buildings in Sea Point.

The panel featured three radio experts namely, John Bulani, Brenda Leonard and Asanda Ngoasheng. Another speaker in the panel was Bush radio intern Lulama Klassen.

The seminar was conducted by Journalism lecturer, Doc Sisanda Nkoala with CPUT media students in attendance.
